Spelling

This term the children will work on learning 3, 4 or 5 new words per week. These words are selected from their writing, word study inquiries, words that author's use and from the commonly used words.
The children will write these words in their 'Readers and Writer's notebooks to work on at home and at school. Word building, dictionary work, spelling patterns, prefixes and suffixes are all ideas the children can work on.
This week the focus will be on the commonly used words.

Book Talk Helpers.

A huge hug and thanks to those parents who have participated in our wonderful 'Book Talk' sessions on a Wednesday morning. It is a very special time and adds much to developing our love of Literature. We are so impressed with how you all so engage the children and discuss the stories read which will encourage a greater depth of understanding of what a story may be about. Thanks again, Kevin

Friday Fitness and Fun.

Yoga is great fun for children's mind, body and spirit. Emily introduced the children to breathing and movements.

Pina comes to work with the children to combine stories, music, imagination and visualisation with traditional yoga techniques.

Ethan is challenging the children through breakdance and Kevin is teaching Tai Chi. This is to improve balance, concentration, flexibility, focus, attention and learning.

Thankyou Pina and Emily!

Machines Work

The measuring time inquiry group have been investigating how wheels and gears are moved by a centre wheel. As part of our inquiry a group of children from years 5/6 came to assist us in this experience using lego dacta. All the children were very excited with their original machines as they learnt about cogs and other moving parts. Thank you to our wonderful experts.

3d shapes

In mathematics this week the children have been working with 2 and 3d shapes. Please click on the link for some interactive shapes.

Like sands through the hourglass...

Hourglasses are one of the earliest known methods for keeping track of time.  They were both consistent and reliable, and unlike systems that relied on the sun, they could be used anywhere and everywhere.  With this in mind, some of us decided to explore the design and construction of our very own hourglasses.  Measuring from as little as six seconds to as much as three or more minutes, there was a great deal of careful trial and error involved in the construction of these homemade timekeepers.
