Number Fact Families
We are currently looking at number facts and fact families during numeracy workshops. Students added two numbers together to find the total. eg 10+5=15. They then began to look at other number facts using the same numbers in the family.
5,10,15
10+5=15
5+10=15
15-5=10
15-10=5
We then looked at ways that we can reverse the order of how we wrote the above number facts. All the while the students were encouraged to continue to check their working out to ensure that it was an accurate number fact for the fact family.
15=10+5
15=5+10
5=15-10
10=15-5
Reading Time
At home, if you have an analogue clock, encourage your children to read the time to closest hour, quarter past, half past and quarter to times.
Place Value When you are driving or walking with your children, take a moment to look at some of the number plates that you pass or pass you by.
Standard Victorian number plates have 3 numbers and 3 letters. Encourage your child to read the number as a three digit number for example 283 would be read as two hundred and eighty three.
Discuss the value of each number in relation to their column. For example the 8 is in the tens column, there are 8 tens so it is worth eighty.
What is the largest number that can be made from the 3 numbers? eg, 832
What is the smallest number that can be made from the 3 numbers? eg 238
good work ive love to see more!!!!
